Posse Comitatus Is Dead, Again

The lines blurred even further Monday as a new dynamic was introduced to the militarization of domestic law enforcement. By making a few subtle changes to a regulation in the U.S. Code titled“Defense Support of Civilian Law Enforcement Agencies” the military has quietly granted itself the ability to police the streets without obtaining prior local or state consent, upending a precedent that has been in place for more than two centuries. <br>
“This is a complete erosion of the rule of law,” says (journalist and activist) O’Brien. Knowing these sweeping powers were granted under a rule change and not by Congress is even more harrowing to activists. “That anything can be made legal,” says O’Brien, “is fundamentally antithetical to good governance.”
As far as what might qualify as a civil disturbance, Afran notes, “In the Sixties all of the Vietnam protests would meet this description. We saw Kent State. This would legalize Kent State.”

And in the vein of "We aren't responsible, we only trained 'em." 

The DoD official even referred to the Boston bombing suspects manhunt saying, “Like most major police departments, if you didn’t know they were a police department you would think they were the military.” According to this official there has purposely been a “large transfer of technology so that the military doesn’t have to get involved.” Moreover, he says the military has learned from past events, such as the siege at Waco, where ATF officials mishandled military equipment. “We have transferred the technology so we don’t have to loan it,” he states.

I Like This One

I like it a lot.
Missouri has passed a bill that says:

All federal acts, laws, orders, rules, and regulations, whether past, present, or future, which infringe on the people’s right to keep and bear arms as guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution and Article I, Section 23 of the Missouri Constitution shall be invalid in this state, shall not be recognized by this state, shall be specifically rejected by this state, and shall be considered null and void and of no effect in this state.

This includes the Gun Control Acts of 1934 and 1968. I'm sure Eric Holder has had a conniption. This appeals to my stubborn side.

The more times the people say "No!" The more likely the powers that be are likely to get it. Stop messing with our rights...give us back the pieces of pie that you took before.

No time to Sigh With Relief

Democratic leadership aides said the effort could be revived if a public groundswell demanded it. “The world is watching the United States Senate, and we will be held accountable,” said Senator Richard Blumenthal, Democrat of Connecticut, who helped lead the gun control effort.  

I can tell you, Senator Blumenthal, that the rest of the world doesn't have such a good record for following the will and protecting the rights of their people. Not that we're a shining example, but this is a step in the right direction. Defeat of this bill was just the reasoned response of those who realize what is really at stake. So, take your whining and go home.

In the meantime, call your senators and tell them to vote against cloture on Harry Reid’s bill (S. 649) so it can die in the Senate rather than hold out 'til later. The number to the capitol is 202-224-3121, the switchboard will hook you up with your folks to oppose cloture. 

Unbelievable

"The crawl space was there. I figured there might be a safe or something there that might obtain jewelry or something. That was the only door I opened, the only door," Slater said. 

Instead of jewelry he found five rounds of .38 from a mother protecting her children. As for the "only door" he opened, I guess he forgot about the front or back door he opened to get into the house where he didn't belong in the first place.
Oh, wait a minute, he didn't forget about that one.

"I knocked on the door. I tried to take every precaution to make sure I was going into a vacant home," he said.

We Cannot Allow This to be Ratified

“The Senate has already gone on record in stating that an Arms Trade Treaty has no hope, especially if it does not specifically protect the individual right to bear arms and American sovereignty,” Sen. Thad Cochran, a Mississippi Republican who backed Mr. Inhofe’s motion, said in a statement. “It would be pointless for the president to sign such a treaty and expect the Senate to go along. We won’t ratify it.”

Don't tear down Ted Cruz within earshot of Mark Levin.

“Well, you know, ladies and gentlemen, there is a concerted effort to attack our dear friend Ted Cruz, the great senator from Texas, by all manner of miscreant malcontent lightweights,” Levin said.

This Is What It Will Look Like

Slow and small. Just an "innocent," creeping takeover. And the powers that be will say, "See, we're just protecting you from the evil, felonious, deranged people." Until everyone qualifies as an evil person, except anyone who is associated with those in power. Everyday folks need to pay attention. Go read it.
