Picked Up The Mosin Today

It's 91/30 low wall round receiver from Izhevsk. Made in 1939. Arsenal marks all over the stock and it looks like it might be counter bored, but it's hard to tell because of all the cosmoline down in the barrel. Didn't have time to start cleaning because of "homework" for the real job. The rifling from the breech end looks really bright. The bolt, buttplate and magazine have all been electropencil force matched to the receiver. I'm hoping it's a good shooter because now I know I won't feel bad about giving it the bubba treatment. So, at the first opportunity it's off to the range to see what it'll do.

Getting to The Point

Straight to it with no fooling around. The summation, for those with short attention spans, of why folks should reconsider their support of the president. Frankly it the list sounds like something from Chicago politics. Wait...oh yeah, that's right.
It's a shame, really.

Speaking of Mosin's

A good friend of mine just got his Archangel stock. I'm looking forward to handling it. He's planning a youtube video and I hope to be involved in his range visit. I believe the plan is to shoot his rifle with the original stock then swap to the Archangel and see what effect it has after the change. I just want to see the detachable magazine setup. No, that's not really true, I really want to see ow it handles and shoot it.
Here's his "Guess what I just got" video from this evening.

U-Turn! Or Maybe Just Kinda Veering Off a Little

Hey Bub, we goofed. We know we're supposed to do things a certain way, but if we do it like that people will get wise and won't let us continue to do it the way we want. So, we'll keep doing it like this (which is to say, poorly) and just back a few things up, but only a little. Connecticut just can't get it right.
In response to the December murders of 20 school children and six educators at a Newtown elementary school, the legislature passed a bill in early April containing a number of new gun control restrictions. The bill was drafted by lawmakers from both parties through a special committee process which took place outside the traditional legislative process.
Critics of the law have filed lawsuits seeking to have it declared unconstitutional. Some opponents have alleged that portions of the new law are too vague for residents, gun shop owners, and firearms manufacturers to apply.
When will people--read that "the voting public"--learn? Go read it.

I Need Advice

or at least, a recommendation. We're looking for a storm shelter and would prefer something that can be  attached to the slab in our garage. Anyone have experience with this in North Texas?

Mosin, Mosin, Mosin

Got a Mosin comin'. Standard issue round receiver 91/30. Might be able to pick it up on Tuesday or Wednesday. I'm already planning to bubba it with a scout scope. Don't hate me if you are a purist, but I'm also thinking of painting it. Something along the lines of this nicely done work/tutorial. Who knows? I may chicken out and only do the wood.

Don't Sign Mr. President

We're in trouble if the UN Arms Trade Treaty goes through. Two-thirds of those voting in the Senate is possible if some Republicans aren't in school the day the vote is arranged. Apparently the president plans to sign (though the Senate has passed legislation negating it already) on Monday, Jun 3.
A few people in the comments on the story were pointing to the harmlessness of the treaty concerning the effect within the borders of the U.S. To them I said, "Yes, some of us have read the treaty. It does not technically "clash with the Second Amendment." The most concerning things are between the lines.
Where do your Glocks, Springfield XD's, some Taurus's, Rock Island, most AKs, Mosin Nagants, etc., etc. originate? Correct, from outside this country. If the U.S. Government can go after/try to financially ruin Gibson Guitars for importing a relatively small amount of wood used in their production based on a treaty signed by a nation outside this country what do you think is going to happen with this treaty in effect? How many firearms importers wil be financially roughed-up or even bankrupted by this administration as they take advantage of the treaty?"

No matter how harmless Snopes or anyone else may try to make it sound it's a taking a step down a road that we don't want to travel. All legislation is to be considered an incremental step toward some larger goal, whether by direct route or flanking maneuver. Wake up, it's not all rainbows and sunshine.
