You, Sir, Are Wrong

"No right in this country is absolute," Himes said. "You do not have absolute rights anywhere, in particular when it concerns things that are very dangerous. A classic example is freedom of expression, but you do not have a right to shout fire in a crowded theater. In the same regard, efforts to regulate a very dangerous technology are not efforts to obliterate a constitutional right."

Go read it.
I am so tired of reading and hearing this. I do have the right to yell whatever I want in two circumstances. First, there's really a fire. Second, I'm willing to accept responsibility for whatever happens as a result of my actions. Understanding the nature of people and the tendency to panic, scream and shout, wave their arms and run about, I would never yell fire in a crowded theater. Someone would get hurt. I, and other law-abiding citizens, know this and act accordingly. Same for law-abiding gun owners. We know, too, what damage the improper use of a firearm can do. We follow the rules. Evil people don't.
Don't think you can take away my "dangerous technology" because someone else isn't responsible in their actions. It has already been said shouting fire in a theater is against the law because someone might get hurt or even killed. There are laws against using a firearm to injure or kill someone unless it is in self defense, too. Think, please.
And, "get a dog"? Really?

I Want To Be The One...

...in control.
"Yet in a somewhat intellectually quixotic self-perception, these gun-control zealots declare themselves the rational thinkers on the subject and believe their conclusions infallible, despite the fact that the hypotheses to which they are so devoted are rarely measured in the crucible of evidence."

It Needs to be Said...

...just to make everyone think. It's time to figure out where you stand. What happens when the agreed upon terms are no longer honored by the group that can make the laws and has the guns?
"Warning: This part will offend some of you but it needs to be said. You could always hold up your pocket constitution and shout, “Stop it! Stop it! You’re not allowed to do that!” You will then be ignored like the constituents before you since the very first congress and president took office. No government has ever been restrained by a constitution. The only thing that has ever restrained any government is its own inability to consume and destroy everything all at one time. And that inability is being overcome more and more with each passing day."

If Alan Gottlieb Shows Up

Anti-Rights proponents should just save themselves the embarrassment and trot along home. The man is a chess master when it comes to the gun rights battle. Don't doubt him, just know that he is seeing far more potential outcomes than anyone else in the room. Go read it.

If I Read About It...

...I might want one of my own. Take it away! Go read it.

Nope, They Really Don't

If the gun-control lobby wants to be relevant and stay on the issue agenda, it needs to play on both sides of the political aisle. The gun-control lobby is going to have to find Republican members of Congress it can support - it has to prove it can elect Republicans. Only then will it be able to force the Democrats to take it seriously.

Is it just me, or does the number of Republicans who support gun control seem to be outweighed by the number of Democrats who get NRA backing? There's a reason for that...fewer actual voters support gun control than the media wankers want to admit. So, as go the voters, so go the elected officials. Go read it.

A Fine Example

...for an idiotic premise. Hang one's hat on the efforts and outcome of one obviously deranged individual? Not wise in my opinion. Seriously, Christopher Dorner is not the person that a government or police need to worry about. It's the people who don't write a manifesto and don't announce their love or hate for political figures. People who have decided they have something to fight for rather than just against. When a person feels cornered, back against a wall, they'll fight that's for sure. But, when a person is standing between a perceived enemy and one of their own family it's totally different. I would urge Mr. Skelton to rethink his example. The III Percent are not Chistopher Dorner, the III Percent will not fight because they have an axe to grind or to save their names. The III Percent will fight to protect their families, their freedoms and the future of this country. The line has not been crossed, yet, and Dorner was only a single man. It will be different. That's guaranteed. Go read it.

A Tiny Bit of Light...

I Think I've Got Everything

And though I really can't afford it, I can't afford not to go. I have promised myself that I will stick with the training-gun-training-gun budget spend scheme. So, I enrolled for BEYOND CONCEALED CARRY instructed by Bob Mayne and Ben Branam. Picked up 300 rounds of 45 acp today and gave my training gear a cursory glance. I'll dig into it all this weekend and be sure I'm really ready to go. The class will be held in Argyle, Texas on March 2. If you have never listened to the Handgun World Podcast you should consider it. It is worth the time for both information and entertainment. Bob and Ben are an excellent team (Bob was no slouch when he was running solo) and their combined knowledge and dedication to gun related topics make the hour-ish podcast fly by. They are also putting out a mid-week podcast now, too. Try it out and I'll report back after the class.

Facepalm

"“Young people absolutely believe that there’s a role for government,” said Matt Singer, a founder of Forward Montana, a left-leaning though officially nonpartisan group that seeks to engage young people in politics. “At the same time, this is not a generation of socialists.""

Here Comes Trouble

From right next door in Dallas and down in Houston, comes more weenie idiocy. I'm pretty sure--check that, I'm certain--all of this falls under the "Don't start none, won't be none" category. Go read it.

If only...

...this was a Federal repeal instead of state level.

Texas House Bill 149 (HB149), The Texas Liberty Preservation Act (Larson; HD-122), was placed into the Federalism and Fiscal Responsibility Committee on 6 Feb 2013.
The objective of HB 149 is to stop indefinite detention by nullifying Sections 1021 and 1022 of the NDAA.  The bill includes criminal penalties for federal agents who attempt to carry out such “indefinite detentions” within the state of Texas – 1 year in prison and up to $10,000 fine.

There Are Parallels

Let's say you are a researcher. You remain impartial, right? Here's a good example of what to look for when any statistics--or in this case no statistics--are encountered in a news article. Check credentials and look for the angles.  Go read it.
In Dr. Tim Stockwell's official bio at the University of Victoria says, "Tim is committed to the advancement of public policy on substance use issues in BC. He has established CARBC [Centre for Addictions Research of British Columbia] as a research centre which aims to shed light on the social, cultural and psychological determinants of harmful substance use..."
He is the Director of the Center. Think it would be around long, receive more funding, etc. if he didn't discover a causal relationship between drinking and something "bad" in the eyes of society?
Always know where stats originate. The same goes for guns and gun control. Don't let people just toss around numbers without telling you their source.

Nowhere did the NRA say...

...enemies
"Adding an indiscriminate enemies list to the NRA website only highlights its isolation, consolidating opposition among the figures mentioned and their fans."
The NRA has simply compiled a list list to make you think--if you are concerned about who is for or against gun rights that is. I realize it's his opinion, but Avlon needs to rethink his position on the CNN Political Strike Team and stop putting words in people's mouths to achieve his spin. Go read it.

Are They Smelling The Coffee?

Maybe we could improve our image in the eyes of the rest of the world by calling this stuff to a halt. I think the damage is done. Notice how this one from Yahoo! News soft sells the power the president is using to declare that he can kill Americans. Time for more people to wake up and take notice of what is going on all around them. Go read it.

Domestic

Some people say don't get involved. Would I? I'm not sure. Would you? Go read it.

There Are Rules

Four of 'em:
1. Always treat every gun like it is loaded.
2. Never point a gun at something you aren't willing to destroy.
3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire.
4. Know your target and what is beyond it.
Let's add some general guidance about proper attire. Go read it.

From the top

What am I doing here? Talking about guns and gun rights. That and hoping I'm not adding to the noise. I know there are a lot of people who have been doing this for far longer and will do it far better, but I'm tired of feeling powerless. I'm putting my opinion out there. Don't like it? That's a shame. I hope I'll be able to persuade you at some point. Do like it? Great! Drop me a line and share your opinion, too.
I'll also be posting some photos as I progress. I have an advanced degree in photojournalism so I really enjoy photography as much as I enjoy all the other stuff. I haven't been doing enough of that lately so I'm assigning myself a couple of good shots a week. Hold me to it!
